Kenneth Elmer, MD
Pediatrics
Dr. Elmer grew up in an Air Force family. After Texas, California, Japan, and Illinois, he landed the plane in Alabama, where he stayed for Autauga County High School, Auburn, UAB Medical School, and UAB Pediatrics Residency. He has been practicing Pediatrics at Simon-Williamson Clinic since 1986. Among his professional activities, he has been involved in various aspects of the management of SWC, including a term as President. He’s a self-confessed geek and has managed parts of the clinic’s shared file system, intranet and internet pages. He has served as President of the Children’s Hospital medical staff and is currently on the Executive Board of the state chapter of the Academy of Pediatrics. He maintains privileges at Children’s Hospital of Alabama, BBH Princeton, BBH Brookwood, and St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Dr. Elmer is married to the former Julie Houston, who is a native Alabamian, and they have three grown children. He serves as an Elder at his church and plays guitar, bass, or keyboard and sings with the music program there. He still enjoys a little morning hoops, and is pretty sure the other (much younger) players call him “doc” because his talent and style of play remind them of Doctor J.
